| Definition | Johnston organ neuron (JON) that innervates zone D of the most posterior region of the ipsilateral antennal mechanosensory and motor center (AMMC) with little arborization. There are around 40 of these cells, with cell bodies distributed as a pair of clusters (Kamikouchi et al., 2006). Some of these neurons respond to vibrations and are activated when stimulated with courtship pulse song, with greater activation at medium frequency (Matsuo et al., 2014). Some of these neurons are also activated by an anterior deflection of the arista, corresponding to air flow applied to the back of the head, similar to zone C Johnston organ neurons (Matsuo et al., 2014).[ FlyBase:FBrf0194812 FlyBase:FBrf0225118 ] | ||||||||
