Term descending neuron of the gnathal ganglion DNg60 ID (Ontology) FBbt:20007671 (Fly Anatomy)
Definition Adult descending neuron with its soma in the gnathal ganglion, ventral to the antennal mechanosensory and motor center (Schlegel et al., 2024; Dorkenwald et al., 2024). It has bilateral dendritic and axonal arborization in the gnathal ganglion (Sterne et al., 2021; Schlegel et al., 2024; Dorkenwald et al., 2024). It descends on the contralateral side of the cervical connective and has axonal arborization in the T1 leg neuropil and intermediate tectulum (Sterne et al., 2021). Its predicted neurotransmitter is GABA (Eckstein et al., 2024). Comment Sturner et al. (2025) map this to mesa and snail. Shiu et al. (2024) - FBrf0260565 and Sapkal et al. (2024) - FBrf0260559 map this to bluebell (FBbt:00051857). Bluebell does not appear to be a descending neuron in Sterne et al. (2021), but it is shown to be in Sapkal et al. (2024) and this mapping is in codex (2025-03-04).
