Description
Description
Mitochondrial ribosomes are found in the mitochondrial matrix and translate genes involved in oxidative phosphorylation encoded by the mitochondrial genome. Ribosomes are formed by two ribonucleoprotein subunits, large and small. The principle function of the large subunit is to bind tRNA during the synthesis of polypeptides. (Adapted from FBrf0205398).
Notes on Group

The MITOCHONDRIAL LARGE RIBOSOMAL COMPONENTS gene group includes mitochondrial rRNA.

Based on data from the human orthologs (PMID:25278503), mRpS18A has been assigned to both the MITOCHONDRIAL SMALL RIBOSOMAL COMPONENTS and MITOCHONDRIAL LARGE RIBOSOMAL COMPONENTS gene groups, and mRpS30 has been moved from MITOCHONDRIAL SMALL RIBOSOMAL COMPONENTS to the MITOCHONDRIAL LARGE RIBOSOMAL COMPONENTS gene group (FBrf0260754).
