Description
Description
Chitinases belong to the 18-glycosylhydrolase family and possess one or more glyco18 domains. Chitinases hydrolyze the N-acetyl-β-D-glucosamine β-1,4 glycosidic bonds in chitin polymers. (Adapted from FBrf0230884).
Notes on Group

In D. melanogaster, two genes previously named 'Cht1' and 'Cht3' were subsequently found to be portions of a larger gene, Cht10 (FBrf0231276).

Cht12 has been excluded from the CHITINASES gene group as it does not contain a catalytic motif, indicating that it is not an active enzyme (FBrf0258619).
