Description
Description
Solute carrier family 3 (SLC3) members encode the heavy chain of heteromeric amino acid transporters (HATs), forming a complex with L-type amino acid transporters of the SLC7 family. The main role of SLC3 proteins is believed to be the routing of the HAT to the plasma membrane. (Adapted from FBrf0207965 and PMID:14770309).
Notes on Group

The SLC3 FAMILY OF HETEROMERIC AMINO ACID TRANSPORTERS ANCILLARY SUBUNITS is only solute carrier family that does not have a transporter function by itself. It debated whether SLC3 should be a SLC class (FBrf0251874).

The 'Maltase' genes were included as SLC3s as they share over 20 % amino acid sequence identity with human SLC3A1.
