CoA carboxylases catalyze the joining of a carboxyl group to a molecule that is attached to CoA. They include acetyl-CoA carboxylase, which catalyzes the carboxylation of acetyl-CoA to produce malonyl-CoA and thus plays a crucial role in fatty acid biosynthesis. (Adapted from PMID:15968460.)
