Description
Description
Fucosyltransferases catalyze the transfer of a fucosyl group from GDP-fucose to various acceptor molecules including oligosaccharides, glycoproteins, and glycolipids. Fucosylated carbohydrate structures are involved in a variety of biological processes in eukaryotic organisms including tissue development, angiogenesis, fertilization and cell adhesion. (Adapted from PMID:16973733.)
Notes on Group

FucTA is the only alpha1,3-fucosyltransferase homolog known to possess core alpha1,3-fucosyltransferase activity - FucTB, FucTC and FucTD have restricted expression patterns and do not appear to be catalytically active (FBrf0137268, FBrf0190902), and are therefore excluded from this group.
