Solute carrier family 52 (SLC52) members are riboflavin (vitamin B2) transporters and play important roles in its homeostasis. Riboflavin is a water-soluble compound and acts as a precursor for flavin mononucleotide and flavin adenine dinucleotide both of which function in the mitochondrial electron transport chain.
