Description
Description
Malic enzymes comprise a family of proteins with multiple isoforms located in different compartments of eukaryotic cells. They are key enzymes regulating malic acid metabolism and catalyze the reversible reaction of malate oxidative decarboxylation of malic acid, producing pyruvic acid and CO[[2]]. They may be NAD[+] or NADP[+]-dependent. (Adapted from PMID:31322479.)
