Class C scavenger receptors are type I transmembrane proteins or soluble secreted proteins. The extracellular domain contains N-proximal compliment control protein (CCP) domain preceding a MAM motif. Class C scavenger receptors are only found in insects and are involved in the innate immune response, acting as pattern recognition receptors for bacteria. Notes on Group
Class C scavenger receptors are expressed only in insects and there are currently no known mammalian class C scavenger receptors. (PMID:26010753).
