Dislocases drive the ATP-dependent extraction of mislocalized tail-anchored (TA) proteins from the outer mitochondrial membrane (OMM) or endoplasmic reticulum (ER). They include the conserved eukaryotic proteins Msp1 (yeast)/ATAD1 (human), which is a transmembrane AAA-ATPase that extracts mislocalized TA proteins from the OMM, and Spf1 (yeast)/ATP13A1 (human), which is a P-type ATPase that dislocates TA proteins that mis-insert into the ER.
