Description
Description
Baramicins are peptides united by their N-terminal IM24 domain. Multiple Baramicin paralogs exist in Drosophila melanogaster and other species - full-length, multi-domain paralogs are immune-induced antimicrobial peptides, whereas truncated paralogs that have only an IM24 domain appear to have neurological roles. Notes on Group

The D. melanogaster release 6 reference genome encodes two 100% identical BaraA genes (BaraA1 and BaraA2), but BaraA gene number is variable in various lab strains and wild-caught flies - e.g. only ~14% of DGRP strains have two BaraA copies.
