Description
Description
Thioester-containing proteins (TEPs) are secreted proteins characterised by a highly conserved region TED (thiol ester-containing domain) found in vertebrate alpha2-macroglobulin. TEPs are protease inhibitors, acting as pseudo-substrates that are cleaved and form a covalent bond with proteases. (Adapted from FBrf0264427.)
Notes on Group

Mcr, macroglobulin-complement related, has been excluded from the THIOESTER-CONTAINING PROTEINS gene group as the critical cysteine residue of the thioester motif is replaced by serine (FBrf0264427).
