Description
Description
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a gasotransmitter synthesized in the cytosol from L-cysteine and/or homocysteine via two enzymes of the transsulfuration pathway, cystathionine β-synthase Cbs and γ-cystathionase Cth. (Adapted from PMID:21315854 and FBrf0262727.)
Notes

In mammals, hydrogen sulfide can also be produced by the desulfuration of 3-mercaptopyruvate (a by-product of L-cysteine catabolism) by 3-mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase (MPST); however, this pathway is likely absent in D. melanogaster since it lacks an ortholog of MPST.
