For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.
slk is necessary for the migration of epithelial cells of the embryonic foregut forward to become ensheathed in neighbouring midgut tissue and form the proventriculus. In slk mutants the proventriculus cannot complete its developmental program due to the migratory defect and the larvae cannot swallow.
