Results from transgenic expression of Alup\AFP1.5 and Alup\AFP1.9 in the female haemolymph suggest that the antifreeze proteins are unable to enhance survival of adults under hypothermic conditions.

Drosophila-produced Alup\AFP1.5 protein accumulates in the haemolymph where it can form ice crystals during thermal hysteresis.
