OdsH, Ods
Please Note This section lists cDNAs and ESTs that fall within the genomic extent of the gene model, which may include cDNAs and ESTs of genes within introns, or of overlapping genes. Please see JBrowse for alignment of the cDNAs and ESTs to the gene model.
For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.
Mapping of the Dmau\OdsH gene shows it can be delineated to a region the size of an average gene, approximately 20kb. While Dmau\OdsH appears to be a discrete element, it requires other nearby genes to be cointrogressed to confer full hybrid sterility: Dmau\OdsHmau alone is insufficient to cause hybrid sterility in D.simulans.
Genetic and molecular analysis suggest the presence of a factor at 16D, named "Odysseus" (Dmau\OdsH), responsible for male sterility of D.mauritiana x D.simulans hybrids. Introgressions of Dsec\OdsH do not cause sterility.
Source for merge of: Dmau\Ods Dmau\OdsH
A D.melanogaster transcription unit (OdsH) has been isolated which maps to the location of the "Odysseus" locus defined by introgression of D.mauritiana sequences into D.simulans. This transcript has been named OdsH to imply the correspondence in position between the genetic and molecular data without stating their functional equivalence. OdsH is also present in D.mauritiana (Dmau\OdsH) and D.simulans (Dsim\OdsH).
