The testis specificity index was calculated from modENCODE tissue expression data by Vedelek et al., 2018 to indicate the degree of testis enrichment compared to other tissues. Scores range from -2.52 (underrepresented) to 5.2 (very high testis bias).

For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.
Mutant animals are female sterile and produces eggs and embryos with checkpoint defects. Mitoses, in embryos from homozygous mothers, are initially normal but are not sensitive to cell cycle arrest by colchicine treatment, unlike wild type. Untreated embryos become progressively more abnormal with developmental time and they rarely cellularize. In later embryos there is evidence of frequent chromosome loss and aneuploidy. In contrast to these conditional mitotic defects there is an early phenotype that is always expressed: all meiotic products in unfertilized eggs and the polar bodies in embryos always decondense but do not appear to undergo further replication or to form giant nuclei.
Some people may find "snafu" objectionable as a fly gene name because it is also a potentially vulgar abbreviation.
