    Functional Complementation Data
Functional complementation data is computed by FlyBase using a combination of the orthology data obtained from DIOPT and OrthoDB and the allele-level genetic interaction data curated from the literature.

The monomeric engineered Zzzz\Dronpa protein has reversible photoswitching properties; strong excitation at 490nm rapidly photobleaches the protein, while minimal irradiation at 400nm completely restores its fluorescence. Fluorescence can be switched on and off repeatedly (PMID:15550670).

    Etymology

The gene is named "Dronpa" after "dron", a ninja term for vanishing and "pa", which stands for photoactivation.
