This report includes links to reviews and general information on fly models of liver disease. In vertebrates, the liver is a critical organ for the maintenance of body homeostasis; it controls several molecular and metabolic routes and acts in detoxification processes. In insects, these functions are carried out in the fat body and in oenocytes; the fat body appears to control hepatic functions related to feeding, while the oenocytes regulate functions related to fasting.
