Interaction in vitro; protein produced as a recombinant fusion protein in bacterial system.
At high ionic strength (500mM NaCl), purified ProtB forms spontaneous dimers in vitro via disulfide bonds (sensitive to β-mercaptoethanol reduction or blocking of sulfhydryl groups by N-ethylmaleimide). Upon assembly into protamine-DNA complexes, higher order homooligomers are observed.

In non-reducing buffer, ProtB forms dimers in vitro.
