    Sample preparation

    Newly eclosed adults were aged for ~4 days, then exposed to caffeine (25mg/ml in 10% sucrose solution) for 8 hours; 12% lethality was observed (this dose is 100% lethal in 24 hours). Survivors were flash frozen in liquid nitrogen and stored at -80oC prior to RNA preparations.
