vgWRK2 (which has been subsequently re-named invD), is a derivative
allele of vgW. vgW is caused by an inversion fusing the vg and inv
alleles, (see Williams et al, 1990). The invD allele was created by
subjecting vgW to gamma rays. Removing the 3' end of the vg portion of
the fused genes in vgW gives the invD, (vgWRK2) phenotype.

ref, as soon as it is accepted somewhere.
