Subject: E(zen)2 & E(zen)3 Dear Chip, I'm trying to clean up some old, questionable FlyBase gene records. FlyBase has the following gene records, for which the only reference is your 1995 abstract. For these gene, please answer the following questions: Is this a real gene or if we should "un-gene" it? Are you aware of this gene being published with a different symbol since then? (Chip: My recollection is that E(zen)3 is Medea, but I need you to confirm this in writing before this gene record is removed. I don't recall if E(zen)2 turned out to be Mad.) Ignore the *a, *z, etc. They are just database field tags. I think the data in each row are reasonably self-explanatory. Thanks in advance for your help & best wishes, Bill \*a E(zen)2 \*z FBgn0013945 \*x FBrf0080529 == ew1981 == Hudson et al., 1995, A. Conf. Dros. Therefore, please delete the gene names. After consultation with Laurel and Rick, we renamed our Medea alleles numerically prior to publication; however, the one allele of Mad we obtained we published as "ez" and did not give it a numerical allele name.
