Subject: FlyBase query Dear Dr. Oates, I am curating your paper for FlyBase: Oates et al., 1998, Mech. Dev. 78(1,2): 165--169 which is about the gene dnt (doughnut). there is already a gene in FlyBase with the name ''doughnut'' - it has the symbol ''dn'', is on the 3rd chromosome and is in Lindsley and Zimm. Would it be OK for the valid name of your gene dnt to be ''doughnut on 2'' as it is on the second chromosome, to distinguish it from the doughnut gene (dn) on chromosome 3. The symbol you used - ''dnt'' will stay as it is, as this symbol hasn't been used before. I look forward to hearing from you, Gillian \-------------------------------------------------------------- Gillian Millburn.
