Subject: Karp and Cherbas deletions and complementation groups in region 55-56
In 1984-85, Robert Karp in Peter Cherbas' lab generated deletions in the
region of Eip55E by X ray treatment of Tp(1;2)TE55Ea. Three of the
deletions recovered (with Karp's cytology) were
Df(2R)Pu29	55C1,2;56B1,2
Df(2R)Pu66	55D2-4;55E4
Df(2R)Pu34	55D2-E1;56B2
Subsequently, Karp and Cherbas screened for lethal complementation groups
that failed to complement Df(2R)Pu34. They defined five lethal
complementation groups (A through E) with 2 to 11 EMS-induced alleles per
group. Alleles include:
