Subject: Re: gene nomenclature Hello again Rachel, We have demonstrated that two Drosophila cDNAs (LD11247 and RE64552) are both able to fully complement a yeast sphingosine kinase mutant indicating that CG32484 (CG2159) and CG1747 both have sphingosine kinase activity. This is also suggested by their high degree of sequence similarity to human, mouse, and yeast sphingosine kinases. Therefore, we suggest the following changes to the gene nomenclature: CG1747 changed to Sphk1 CG32484 changed to Sphk2 This work will be discussed in a forthcoming publication tentatively titled: Identification and analysis of Drosophila sphingosine kinases.
