Subject: Helping FlyBase: ADRC.06-60722 Dear Ming-Der, We are currently curating the abstracts for the upcoming 47th (Houston) Annual Drosophila Research Conference, for FlyBase. I am writing in connection with your abstract: Drosophila decapping protein 1, dDcp1, as a novel component of oskar mRNP complex directs its posterior localization in the oocyte. You mention a gene symbol that is new to FlyBase, Dcp1. Do you know which of the Genome Project CG annotations your gene corresponds to? All the CGs have corresponding gene records in FlyBase already and we don't like to make duplicate records for what is actually the same gene unless we can't avoid it. The CG symbols become synonyms when an annotation is named with a more descriptive or functional name. With best wishes, Rachel. Subject: Re: Helping FlyBase: ADRC.06-60722 Dear Rachel, We refer to CG11183 as dDcp1 (Drosophila decapping protein 1) since its protein sequence is similar to human Dcp1a and Dcp1b and is the only Dcp1 homolog in the Drosophila genome. Besides, dDcp1 is also required for the proper degradation of several maternal RNAs that we tested. Best wishes, Ming-Der
