(Houston) Annual Drosophila Research Conference, for FlyBase.
I am writing in connection with your abstract:
Two Genes Affecting Drosophila Gravitaxis.
You mention a gene symbol that is new to FlyBase, alan-shepard.  If you
have settled on a short symbol for your gene now would be a good time
to let me know what it is, as then I can enter it in the database from
the outset.  I'm guessing that the name is taken from Alan Shepard \-
the first American in space.  Is that the etymology?

The short symbol for alan-shepard is alan. The etymology of the name Alan
Shepard is after Alan Shepard, the first American in space.
