Subject: Re: FB Help Mail: 047 Gene data (problem or question) Dear Elizabeth, I am enclosing the recent email correspondence about the 'neverland' gene from Ryusuke Niwa, below. Since you have graciously allowed that their gene be published in Development under the symbol:name nev:neverland we need to find a new symbol:name for your gene, published in FBrf0182970 == Jain and Gavis, 2005, A. Dros. Res. Conf. 46: 337A Do you have any suggestions? Perhaps by now you know which CG it is and are prepared to declare that in FlyBase? If so we could use the CG designation. If not, we'll need to come up with something unique. If you have any suggestions I'd be happy to check that they are available in our most recent files. With my best regards, Rachel. Subject: Re: FB Help Mail: 047 Gene data (problem or question) Rachel, How about "lost boys"? I'm not sure what the abbreviation would be \- perhaps "los" or "lob" if they haven't been used yet. Liz Subject: Re: FB Help Mail: 047 Gene data (problem or question) Dear Liz, > How about "lost boys"? That sounds a good idea. los is 'lost in space' so that won't work but lob is available lost would also work as a symbol and you may prefer that to lob. So lost or lob? I will be able to make the change in time for the next update \- given your rapid replies Many thanks, Rachel. Subject: Re: FB Help Mail: 047 Gene data (problem or question) Rachel, I agree that "lost" sounds a lot more appealing than "lob" unless you are a tennis fanatic, so lets go with "lost".
