189Y is a PGawB insertion in the lilliputian gene. Previous work (Osborne et al, 1997; Renn et al 1999) showed that 189Y is in the foraging gene. My lab (and several others) have rechecked the insertion site and it is in lilliputian. The 189Y insertion is at 2,946,301 of chromosome 2 (calculated from numbers in flybase). This is based on the PCR product size of '200bp' which makes it an estimate. The phenotypic effects of the 189Y insertion on the foraging phenotypes reported in fly base are correct. There is no insertion in the foraging gene in 189Y animals. We have not sequenced for in 189Y so we cannot rule out an additional mutation in the for gene but it is certainly not a P-insertion.
