Subject: Helping FlyBase: ADRC-60414
Dear Robert,
We are currently curating the abstracts for the upcoming 48th
(Philadelphia) Annual Drosophila Research Conference, for FlyBase.
I am writing in connection with your abstract:
Developmentally-regulated cell death of Drosophila salivary glands utilizes ER
stress-linked apoptosis.
You mention a gene symbol that may be new to FlyBase, P58IPK. Do you
know which of the CG annotations your gene corresponds to? All the CGs
have corresponding gene records in FlyBase already and we don't like to
make duplicate records for what is actually the same gene unless we
can't avoid it. The CG symbols become synonyms when an annotation is
named with a more descriptive or functional name.
Best regards,
Rachel.
Subject: Re: Helping FlyBase: ADRC-60414
Dear Rachel,
I apologize for later response, but I am stuck with my lab and
teaching duties, and now preparing the presentation for fly meeting.
The gene you are asking about is CG8286, endoplasmic reticulum
stress-inducible Inihibitor of Protein Kinase, a member of the
tetratricopeptide repeatand J-domain protein family that has molecular
mass 58 kDa. In mammals it is known to function to repress PKR-mediated
phosphorylation of the eukaryotic initiation factor 2alpha subunit
(eIF-2alpha), thus downregulating translation and cell growth.
I hope this helps. If you have any more questions, just write me.
Best regards,
Robert
