The following information accompanied a stock donated to the Bloomington Stock Center by Walter Gehring, University of Basel. blaK48 is an EMS-induced mutation isolated in a genetics class in 1991. Because it produces a phenotype similar to that described for bla1 and mapped by recombination to a similar position on the X chromosome, its allelism was inferred. It gives the bladderwing phenotype in males and homozygous females. Females are semilethal and escapers are sterile with a maternal effect lethal phenotype.
