The following write up accompanied stocks donated to the Bloomington Stock Center by Ivy McDaniel and Gary Karpen, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Tango111 Derived from FBst0027103, y1 w*; P{w+mC=EP}G3298 by P-element excision Deletion extends from chr 2R: 17607036..17607984 Deletion removes first exon, first intron, and part of second exon, as well as upstream sequence. Deletion does not disrupt adjacent genes. The phenotype is larval lethality (or a developmental arrest, depending on how you look at it), apparent 100% penetrance. The larvae survive until early third instar. The larvae seem to persist at this stage indefinitely, though they do not grow. Instead, the larvae remain very, very small third instar larvae for as many as 20 days before death. This phenotype was recapitulated in 6 other deletion alleles of the Tango11 gene in this cross, so I believe it is a real phenotype of Tango11.
