ebo678/l(1)Bb19 transheterozygous flies are viable and do not have the structural defect in the ellipsoid body; i.e. ventrally intended or open ellipsoid body. All known ebo alleles are viable and display this structural brain defect in more than 95% of the brains inspected. Judging from Western Blot analysis ebo678 most likely represents a protein null allele. Similarly, eboKS263 seems to be a protein null and is perfectly viable. These results lead us to the conclusion that ebo and l(1)Bb are different complementation groups.
