The following information accompanied stocks donated to the Bloomington Stock Center by Xiangyi Lu, Wayne State University.
VhaPPA1-2A144 is a male sterile mutation induced with EMS on a chromosome carrying the homozygous viable and fertile P{EPgy2}mldEY12290 insertion.
It failed to complement Df(3R)ED5664, Df(3R)ED5660 and Df(3R)Exel6275, but complemented Df(3R)BSC842, Df(3R)ED10557 and Df(3R)ED10556. Consequently, it maps to an eleven gene region in 88D6.
Whole-genome sequencing and the SnpEff program (FBrf0217795) identified a missense mutation (TGC to TAC) and a premature termination at the 16th codon (G17*) of VhaPPA1-2, which is one of only two genes in the region expressed in the testis. No mutations were found in the other 10 genes in the region.
