Neither FlyBase nor the BDSC website has a sequence location for the P-element insertion PL00074 (FBti0058095; FBst0019374). The insertion report does have the flanking sequences, as determined by the GDP. The 5’ and 3’ flanks both map unambiguously to the same site in the release 6 genome assembly: 3R:3622353 (+). The KG01193 transgene insertion (stock#16457, FBti0039031) is inserted in chromosome 2 pericentric heterochromatin and variegates for the white transgene marker. FlyBase lists the chromosomal location as “(Het)” with no sequence location entry. The Bloomington stock report has the insertion site as: "h40, 2R:953802..953802 (r6, Ti)”. In the process of mapping a KV insertion, I remapped KG01193 to release 6, based on the 3’ flank sequence (GenBank CL528227). The release 6 insertion site is 2R:954288 (-). The insertion site given in the stock report is the coordinate for the wrong end of the flank. The insertion is not within any annotated gene, but there are RNAseq peaks near it and we have another P-element that maps to virtually the same site on the opposite strand.
