Three D.mel genes share significant similarity with human TOMM40 (HGNC:18001), which encodes a subunit of the mitochondrial translocase of the outer membrane (TOM) complex. Tom40 (FBgn0016041) and tomboy40 (FBgn0033074) have been characterized as subunits of somatic and testis-specific TOM complexes, respectively. The paralog CG4520 (FBgn0038355) is more divergent but still has significant similarity with Tom40 and tomboy40.
