l(3)CHb1 (FBal0195755) and l(3)CHb2 (FBal0195756) are alleles identified in a screen for lethals over Df(3R)Espl3 and Df(3R)Exel6204 by Stephen Crews. l(3)CHb is group 4 in Jiang and Crews, 2006 (FBrf0193980, see also FBrf0199131). Further crosses by the Bloomington Drosophila Stock Center shows non-complementation of both l(3)CHb alleles with Df(3R)BSC751 (RRID:BDSC_26849) and Df(3R)ED6232 (RRID:BDSC_8105), placing l(3)CHb between 3R:26 ,036,876 and 3R:26 ,055,324. This region contains six genes: E(spl)m7-HLH, E(spl)m8-HLH, gro, Exo84, Vps2 and Cmpk. Whole genome sequencing reveals the following candidate mutations in the Cmpk gene (no likely candidates were found in any of the other genes):
l(3)CHb1 - Cmpk-PA P150S (CCA->TCA)
l(3)CHb2 - Cmpk-PA R185W (CGG->TGG)
Please note! In the absence of available verified alleles for Cmpk, we have not genetically confirmed Cmpk as the causative gene.
