Abstract
Improper X-dosage causes male lethality. New findings in Drosophila suggest that diploidy of essential tracheal progenitors leaves them critically dependent on successful X-chromosome upregulation during L3 larval development, whereas polyploidy of other cell types confers resistance to dosage imbalance.
