A T-type Damb\P-element has been sequenced. It has a length of 3329bp, and at the 3' end of exon 3 there is a 687bp insertion sequence (Damb\INE-1) that also occurs as dispersed copies in the genome of D.ambigua.
Examination of the P-element phylogeny in light of the species phylogeny suggests that additional horizontal transfers may have occurred at various times in the past and may explain the overall structure of the P-element phylogeny in Sophophora.
The T-type Damb\P-element is longer than the canonical P-element, owing to a 300bp insertion in the 3' noncoding region. Tandem arrays of T-type Damb\P-elements are detected in D.ambigua.
