A small element created as a result of the HeT-A transcription mechanism: one of two promoters at the 3' end of the HeT-A element drives transcription of the HeT-A element immediately downstream, if such an element exists. In the process, a small extent, usually 62 nucleotides or less, from the 3' end of the upstream element is also transcribed. Several such "tags" may occur in tandem 5' of a complete HeT-A element, representing multiple transposition events.
Partial HeT-A element, typically less than 62bp in length and associated with the 5' end of a downstream element.
