FlucDM is a structurally destabilized version of the luciferase encoded by the Photinus pyralis LUC gene (UniProtKB:P08659), containing the amino acid substitutions R188Q and R261Q. These mutations result in a protein that can be used as a sensor of proteostasis (cellular protein homeostasis); imbalances in proteostasis result in changes in FlucDM solubility and luminescence activity (adapted from PMID:21892152).
