An hsp70 promoter and a chimeric enhancer consisting of a 403bp genomic fragment containing the D. pseudoobscura pseudoobscura IAB5.1 enhancer sub-region and a 749bp fragment containing the D. melanogaster IAB5.2 enhancer sub-region in the bithorax complex drive expression of lacZ.
