UAS regulatory sequences drive expression of a biosensor (GB:AF440203) that reports activity of the Abl protein in vivo. The sensor consists of a phosphorylation substrate region (in this case from the mammalian CrkII protein) sandwiched between ECFP and EYFP. Phosphorylation of the substrate region results in a conformational change that induces a change in the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), while dephosphorylation reverses the FRET change (PMID:11752449).
