UAS sequences regulate expression of a truncated Amel\Apamin peptide that lacks the six C-terminal residues (sequence of the truncated Amel\Apaminpeptide is CNCKAPETALCA). The peptide is codon optimized for Drosophila, and is tagged at the N-terminal end with a signal peptide and at the C-terminal end (via a linker sequence of 14 amino acids) with a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) targeting sequence (the addition of a GPI anchor to this targeting sequence is expected to result in the expressed protein being tethered to the extracellular side of the plasma membrane).
