Expression of SsrpJF02120 in the developing eye under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI causes severe defects. Male pharate adults fail to eclose, and lack eyes, antennae and head capsules, whereas 5.5% of females hatch and display partial head capsules with absent or small eyes. Consistently, eye-antennal imaginal discs of third instar larvae are significantly smaller.

Co-expression of Drer\ssrp1aScer\UAS.T:SV5\V5 with SsrpJF02120, under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI, rescues the severe defects found in developing flies expressing SsrpJF02120. The majority of adult females and males hatch and display normal heads and eyes.

Co-expression of Drer\ssrp1bScer\UAS.T:SV5\V5 with SsrpJF02120, under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI, rescues the severe defects found in developing flies expressing SsrpJF02120. Adults of these mutants exhibit slightly rough eyes. Proliferation and R-cell differentiation in eye-antennal discs are indistinguishable from controls.

Co-expression of Drer\ssrp1a1-518.Scer\UAS.T:SV5\V5 with SsrpJF02120, under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI, rescues the severe defects found in developing flies expressing SsrpJF02120. Adults of these mutants exhibit slightly rough eyes. Proliferation and R-cell differentiation in eye-antennal discs are indistinguishable from controls.

Co-expression of Drer\ssrp1as819.Scer\UAS.T:SV5\V5 with SsrpJF02120, under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI, does not rescue the severe defects found in developing flies expressing SsrpJF02120.
