Expression of Ir76bScer\UAS.cAa under the control of Scer\GAL4Ir76b.916 results in an increase in feeding preference index for yeast extract in both males and females, although this only reaches statistical significance in males, as compared to wild type.

Expression of Ir76bScer\UAS.cAa under the control of Scer\GAL4Ir76b.916 in a Ir76b2/Ir76b2 mutant background leads to a small but significant decrease in female feeding preference index for sucrose, as compared to wild type.

Expression of Ir76bScer\UAS.cAa under the control of Scer\GAL4Gr5a.8.5 in a Ir76b2/Ir76b2 mutant background is not sufficient to confer sensitivity of sweet-taste neurons in L-type sensilla to a mixture of serine, threonine and phenylalanine, in a taste response assay with responses measured by single sensillum recordings.

In a taste response assay with responses measured by single sensillum recordings, co-expression of Ir76bScer\UAS.cAa and Ir20aScer\UAS.cGa under the control of Scer\GAL4Gr5a.8.5 in a Ir76b2/Ir76b2 mutant background leads to sweet-taste neurons in L-type sensilla becoming sensitive to a mixture of serine, threonine and phenylalanine, in contrast to controls; and suppresses the response to salt in sweet-taste neurons of L-type labellar sensilla, as compared to Ir76b2/Ir76b2 mutants expressing Ir76bScer\UAS.cAa alone.

Neurons co-expressing Ir25aScer\UAS.cAa and Ir76bScer\UAS.cAa driven by Scer\GAL4Or22a.7.717 do not respond to phenylethyl amine above basal solvent-evoked activity.

Neurons co-expressing Ir76aScer\UAS.cBa and Ir76bScer\UAS.cAa driven by Scer\GAL4Or22a.7.717 do not respond to phenylethyl amine above basal solvent-evoked activity.

Neurons co-expressing Ir25aScer\UAS.cAa with Ir76aScer\UAS.cBa and Ir76bScer\UAS.cAa driven by Scer\GAL4Or22a.7.717 show a robust response to phenylethyl amine.

Comments

Expression of Ir76bScer\UAS.cAa under the control of Scer\GAL4Ir76b.916 rescues the decreased feeding preferences for yeast extract, serine, phenylalanine, alanine, threonine and glycine seen in Ir76b2/Ir76b2 mutant females; and partially rescues the loss of sweet-taste neuron response to salt in L-type labellar sensilla in these mutants.
