Breakpoint(s) molecularly mapped
Breakpoint between DNA coordinates +28.2 and +26.9 (Campuzano et al., 1985). 0 is an arbitrarily chosen EcoRI site in the scβ segment of ASC; positive values to the left (Carramolino, Ruiz-Gomez, Guererro, Campuzano and Modolell, 1982, EMBO J. 1: 1185-92).
Homozygous females show an almost complete loss of tergite chaetae.
Homozygous females are sterile.
Homozygous female sterile (Pucket and Snyder, 1973, Genetics 74: s221). In(1)scS1/0 almost completely male lethal (Baker, 1971; Pucket and Snyder, 1973), the adult survivors extreme scute and almost immotile, with reduction in rRNA (Nix, 1973). In gynandromorphs, however, In(1)scS1/0 cells viable and normal in appearance suggesting that position effect suppression of rRNA is non-autonomous (Pyati, 1976, Genet. Res. 28: 89-91).
Sinitskaya, March 1934.
Induced with In(1)S.
Cytology inferred from genetic identity of left break with that of In(1)sc4 and right break with that of with In(1)sc8.
