Recombination between the two progenitor insertions has deleted the intervening sequence between them.
Df(3R)rtp1 Df(3R)ED5142 P{Mms19.5.6} flies show a reduced rhabdomere surface area relative to wild type.
Df(3R)rtp1 homozygotes in which the lethality caused by disruption of Mms19 has been rescued by P{Mms19.5.6} show no alterations in the sustained light response or the prolonged depolarising afterpotential of electroretinograms compared to wild type. The response of these flies (assayed by whole-cell voltage-clamp recording from dissociated ommatidia) to brief dim light flashes of varying intensity are similar to controls and the and the waveforms of sustained responses to a bright light stimulus also show no significant difference to wild type. Whole-cell recordings from dissociated ommatidia show a conspicuously high level of spontaneous dark noise consisting of small quantum bump-like events, occurring at a higher rate and with a larger amplitude than in controls.
